HYDE — Clearfield’s Boy’s and Girl’s Swimming and Diving team swept Brookville for the second time this season.
The boys won by a 127-33 score, while the girl’s final read 124-57.The boys raised their record to 9-1, while the girls are 7-3 on the season.
\”Actually, we had a pretty good night,\” said head swimming coach, Jackie Morrison. \”It was senior night. We featured our seniors in their best events. The plan was for the seniors to lead the team and really shine tonight. The team swam really well.\”
In the boys dual, the Bisons had three double winners including Shay Flanagan, Logan Shirey and senior Brandon Boyer.
Flanagan won the open 50 and 500 free, while Shirey took the open 100 fly and breaststroke.
Boyer finished first in both the open 100 free and backstroke.
Other individual winners were seniors Chris Bodle (open 200 free), John Bodle (open 200 IM) and Tyler Shaw (one meter dive).
\”Tyler Shaw is very competitive, but hasn’t been getting a lot of firsts,\” said Morrison. \”It was really nice to see him get a win, especially on senior night.\”
Brady Mulhollem earned second place finishes in both the open 200 free and 100 backstroke, while Kraig Peterson (open 200 IM), Steven Williams (one meter dive), John Bodle (open 100 fly), Chris Bodle (open 500 free) and Krchnak (open 100 breaststroke) also placed second.
Jason Parks (open 200 and 500 free), Justin DeCasper (open 50 and 100 free), Jason Maines (open meter dive) and Kraig Peterson (open 100 backstroke) took third.
\”Jason Parks did very well in his events,\” said Morrison. \”I had him in our distance events in the 200 and 400 free. He swam well for us, as did all my rookies — Parks, [Ryan] Renaud, Clyde Coates, Kurtis Graham and Scott Nishida. They all did a really good job for us.\”
In team events, Clearfield won both the 200 medley and free relays, while both teams swam exhibition in the 400 free. As a result, neither team received points.
On the girls side, senior Chelsey Dufour was the only double winner for the Lady Bisons.
Dufour won both the open 50 free and 100 backstroke.
Morrison was impressed by Dufour’s performance when she said, \”Chelsey Dufour had a career best in the 100 back. Chelsey’s swimming and times are now at a point where she will be a serious contender at regionals. She’s really becoming a threat and someone her opponents will have to take seriously.\”
The Lady Bisons received wins from three other seniors including Jaclyn Marsh (open 200 IM), Jennifer Williams (one meter dive) and Allison White (open 100 breaststroke).
Also winning events for Clearfield were Shelbie King (open 200 free), Marisa Howell (open 100 fly), Branda Smeltzer (open 100 free) and Carolyn Shurer (open 500 free).
Smeltzer (open 200 free), White (open 200 IM), Laura Lumadue (open 100 fly), King (open 500 free), Howell (open 100 back) and Marsh (open 100 breaststroke) recorded second place finishes.
\”Ally White had a career best in the 200 IM,\” said Morrison. \”Lumadue had two career bests as well. it was a real breakthrough performance for her.\”
Brandi Centi and Addie Smith tied for second in the open 50 free. Centi also took third in the open 100 free.
In team events, the girls won both the 200 medley and free relays, while swimming exhibition in the 400 free relay. As a result, Brookville received the team points for that event.
Clearfield is back in action Monday when the Bisons travel to St. Marys. The meet is set for 6 p.m
