Drifton — Buster\’s Sports Bar took the first step towards a title as they won their opening round game at the Class \”C\” state championships on Saturday morning in Drifton.
They move on to play Garden Spot at 6:00 PM Saturday night. The winner of that will face the winner of the Cornerstone – Bonnell\’s game at 8:00 AM Sunday morning. The losers will have to play immediately afterwards at 7:30 tonight.
Bobbby Gearhart was the winning pitcher in the high scoring affair.
Up 2-0 on a Chris Peacock 2-out 2-run single in the top of the first, Buster\’s found themselves behind 3-2 after a homerun in the bottom of the first. Buster\’s took the lead for good in the secong inning when Brent \”Bomber\” Thomas flew around the bases on a 3-run inside-the-park homerun.
The Pub battled back to within 8-5 heading to the final inning, but Buster\’s was able to add some insurance in the top half of the 7th to ice the game.
Super Stew ripped a 2-run double, while Travis Henry blasted a 2-run homer to finally break the game open. Thomas finished the game with a team leading 5 RBIs.
