Levis Read Jr., 87, of Clearfield died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at the Penn Highlands Clearfield.
He was born Sept. 15, 1926, a son of the late Levis Sr. and Pearl (Shaw) Read.
Mr. Read was employed as a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He was the assistant scoutmaster of Cubmaster Pack I in 1960.
He was a member of the Philipsburg Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a past president of the Clearfield branch of Latter Day Saints.
Mr. Read was a missionary to Kansas and Missouri for one year and to Washington, D.C. and Kensington, Md. for one year. He also held memberships with the National Association of Letter Carriers and the United Commercial Travelers. A veteran of World War II, he served with the U.S. Army.
He is survived by a son, David Read and his wife, Melody of Treasure Lake; three grandchildren, Jessica, Sean and Trevor; and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris J. (Lingle) Read on Dec. 24, 2008 and whom he wed Dec. 27, 1947; a son, Gerald Read; two sisters, Lillian Shaffer and Gertrude Quinn; and a brother, Ray Read.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield with Branch President Robert Morrison officiating. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
