Dell To Drop Some XPS PCs For Alienware

Ed Sutherland - AHN Editor

Round Rock, Texas (AHN) - PC maker Dell is set to phase out some of its XPS gaming machines to concentrate on its high-end Alienware computers.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the shift is the latest attempt by Dell to recapture some market lost to HP.

Not all XPS machines are headed for mothballs, though. Dell is targeting the XPS Wow notebook and XPS 730 Tower PC.

Alienware, which Dell acquired in 2006, has lost some of its status among game-players, argued one analyst who talked to the newspaper. After being purchased by Dell, the Alienware machines which were sold for around $2,000 were marketed alongside $700 XPS PCs.
