Tyson Found Guilty Of Labor Law Violations In Alabama

Melvin Baker - AHN Reporter

Birmingham, AL (AHN) - Poultry producer Tyson Foods Inc. was found guilty of violating federal labor laws by a jury here Thursday

The conviction stemmed from an investigation by the Labor Department that began nine years ago, the agency said in a statement. A lawsuit against Tyson was filed in 2002.

Tyson had been charged with failing to keep accurate records and to pay employees for time spend donning and doffing safety and sanitary gear, the Department said.

About 3,000 present and former workers at the company's Blountsville plant were affected by the company's actions, the department said.
