Washington, DC (CNS) - Former "American Idol" contestant Kellie Pickler will sing a song she wrote for her grandparents at the AARP's third National GrandRally on Wednesday in the nation's capitol. The event will honor grandparents who raise their grandchildren.
The event is a personal one for Pickler, who was raised by her grandparents in North Carolina after her parents divorced and her mother left when she was only two-years-old. Often called "grandfamilies," the event hopes to raise awareness of and support for these families.
The singer will perform her song "My Angel" which she wrote for her grandparents Faye and Clyde Pickler.
According to People.com, Pickler has donated nearly $50,000 to the AARP's Grandparent Foundation. "I know the struggles they face," she said.
