Orlando, FL (CNS) - Rocker and rapper Kid Rock stepped in to help out some Boy Scouts in need.
Kid Rock, real name Robert Richie, generously donated $10,000 to the Oviedo Boy Scout Troop 631 after their camping gear and trailer was stolen from behind a church. The stolen gear, which took seven years of fundraising to buy, jeopardized a summer camping trip to Tennessee.
Rock was in Orlando, Florida when he read reports about the trailer and camping gear being stolen. He immediately stepped in and wrote out a check to the troop.
"I will cut them a check for the difference and hopefully will allow the boys to make their trip," Kid Rock wrote in an e-mail. His publicist Nick Stern said, "Rock was very happy to help out."
The troop leader, Bill Stott, has said that the rocker's generosity and donations from area locals will be more than enough for the troop to replace the stolen equipment. Stott says he will donate any leftover cash saying, "A Scout earns his way. The community is giving to us, so we want to give back to the community."
Kid Rock, 37, was performing in Orlando and Tampa this weekend at scheduled concerts.
