London, England (CNS) - Kate Winslet has won 25,000 pounds [$41,000] libel damages payout from a tabloid that claim she lied about her exercise regime. The settlement was agreed in a London court Tuesday.
The 34-year-old Academy Award winner sued the Daily Mail in May, claiming she was "distressed and embarrassed" by the tabloid's January article with the title "Should Kate Winslet win an Oscar for the world's most irritating actress?"
The article, accompanied by her several naked photographs from her films, lied about her exercise regime, which the actress found particularly upsetting because she remains committed to her views about body issues.
The Daily Mail published an apology in September, admitting Winslet did not lie about her exercise regime. It agreed to pay the damages and costs.
The settlement amount was agreed upon at London's High Court Tuesday.
