Los Angeles, CA (CNS) - Record label EMI is suing online music website Bluebeat.com for selling Beatles songs without permission. The Fab Four's catalog has never been licensed for sale as a digital download.
EMI has filed a copyright infringement suit against the music website for selling songs recorded by the legendary pop group. Tracks on the website sell for 25 cents each plus 30 cents for the processing fee.
The newly released remastered Beatles album is also included in the website's list of songs for sale.
Bluebeat also streams songs, enabling visitors to listen to the songs for free.
Meanwhile, the entire catalog of the "Yellow Submarine" hitmakers will soon be legitimately available in digital form. Apple Corp and EMI announced the availability for pre-order of 30,000 16GB Apple-shaped USB drivers containing all 14 of the remastered Beatles albums, including the artwork, and documentaries.
The USB drives will go for $280 each starting December 8.
