New York, NY (CNS) - Elisabeth Hasselbeck has lucked out. The plagiarism suit against the television host has been dismissed, but it's not because she didn't plagiarize it.
Her best-selling gluten-free diet book titled "The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide" raised questions of plagiarism after it was released after a book by author Susan Hassett, who wrote "Living with Celiac Disease." Hassett sent Hasselbeck a copy of the book several years before Hasselbeck's book was written.
The case has now been dismissed after Hassett's attorney didn't file all of the necessary paperwork on time, resulting in U.S. District Court Judge Joseph Tauro throwing out the case. But Tauro did state that while portions of the book were definitely copied from Hassett's book, the parts were not significant enough to warrant damages against Hasselbeck. Hassett's attorney then chose not to pursue the case.
Hasselbeck told the viewers of her show "The View" when the suit was filed over the summer, "I just want to assure you the allegations are without merit and are being handled appropriately."
