Chicago, IL (CNS) - Oprah Winfrey made the announcement today that she would be ending her talk show, "The Oprah Winfrey Show," in 2011 after 25 years on the air. She faced the camera on Friday's show and gave viewers a heartfelt explanation.
"It still means as much to spend an hour everyday with you as it did back in 1986," a teary-eyed Winfrey said into the camera.
"So why walk away and make next season the last? Here's the real reason: I love this show, this show has been my life, and I love it enough to know when it's time to say goodbye," she says.
Winfrey also says the decision came after "prayer and careful thought."
"25 years feels right in my bones and it feels right in my spirit," Winfrey says. "It's he perfect number, the exact right time."
"The Oprah Winfrey Show" will end on September 9th, 2011.
