Florida Football Player Charged With Using Dead Woman's Credit Card

Bill Lumpkin - AHN Editor

Gainesville, FL (AHN) -- Florida Gators safety Jamar Hornsby has been kicked off the team after he turned himself in on Friday to answer charges that he allegedly used the credit card of a woman killed six months ago. Hornsby, a 21-year-old junior, turned himself in on charges of credit card theft and fraudulent use of a credit card. He was released later in the day on his own recognizance. Hornsby allegedly used the credit card of Ashley Slonina, a Florida student who died in a motorcycle accident last October that also claimed the life of Gators walk-on Michael Guilford. Alachua County Sheriff's Office spokesman Stephan Maynard said the card was used 33 times in Alachua County and 37 times in Jacksonville, for a total of $3,000 in charges. Said Maynard, "I would love to hear the explanation for utilizing the card of a deceased person." Hornsby allegedly first used the card on Oct. 13, 2007, the day after the woman's death. Said Florida coach Urban Meyer in a news release, "He is not a part of our program."
