Jackson State To Draw Dismissed LSU Quarterback Perrilloux

Jackson, MS (AHN) - Jackson State has entered the race in landing former LSU quarterback Ryan Perrilloux.

Last week, the former top prospect, Perilloux was dropped from the team by coach Les Miles following a series of legal and disciplinary problems that has beset the college career of player. He was tapped to make his starting assignment for the defending national champions after playing back-up to JaMarcus Russell and Matt Flynn for the last two seasons.

"We want to be in the ballpark like everyone else who's recruiting him and see what the situation is and try to see if he fits our program and those type of things," Jackson State coach Rick Cornegy told the Associated Press. "We just don't want to have to play against him."

Cornegy, who has had success in rebuilding the Tigers based on transferees from schools such as Ohio State, Tennessee and Mississippi State, is trying to lure Perrilloux to transfer to a Football Championship Subdivision team where he could play right away. Jackson State has captured its 16th Southwestern Athletic Conference crown last season.

"I've always been a high advocate for giving a young man a second chance and seeing if he's willing to make a change," Cornegy told the AP. "I've seen it happen many, many, many times. I've had many success stories. He's a guy who has kind of a high profile now, but he's a kid who'd like to straighten things out. I'd sure like to help."

Prior to his dismissal, Perrilloux was suspended last summer for attempting to enter a Baton Rouge casino using false identification. Later in November, he got involved in a nightclub altercation which made him miss a game at Alabama. He was subsequently cleared of any wrongdoing.

In February, the quarterback was also suspended by Miles for missing a team meeting, skipping some classes and coming late for conditioning workouts. Perrilloux was later reinstated April 6 and then kicked from the team by Miles who gave no specific reason for the dismissal.

Valdosta State and Alabama A&M are reportedly enticing the quarterback to join their team. Perrilloux is expected to finish the spring semester at LSU.
