Dallas, TX (AHN) - Swedish star Fabian Brunnstrom has agreed to a two-year contract Friday with the Dallas, where he will make his NHL debut as a Star next season.

The 23-year-old forward, who was also lured by Montreal, Detroit and the Toronto Maple Leafs, opted to sign a two-year contract with Dallas believing in its roster depth and the opportunity to realize its objective as a team. Brunnstrom will be compensated in the same manner as the top 5 draft pick which is expected to hit over $2 million per season.

''All of the other teams and clubs, like Montreal and Detroit, were good but I just felt that Dallas was a little bit better for me,'' Brunnstrom told the Associated Press.. ''I really enjoyed the town and the people around the Dallas organization. I got a chance to visit the practice facility and the American Airlines Center and I thought everything was great.''

Brunnstrom, who officially made his decision on Thursday, has also spent some time with the Detroit Red Wings, the Montreal Canadians where he met with team manager Bob Gainey who also made his pitch on the Swedish unrestricted free agent. The Calgary Flames, Anaheim Ducks and the Toronto Maple Leafs have also exerted effort to land the player.

"In the end there was no wrong decision. All of the organizations involved were extremely professional and respectful in their approach and the opportunity was carefully explained. The Dallas option was simply the best one overall for Fabian and he is very comfortable with his decision," Brunnstrom's agent J.P. Barry told the Associated Press.

With the addition of the six-foot-one, 203-pound forward Brunnstrom in the lineup, Dallas, which does not have a first round draft pick this year after trading it to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Mattias Norstrom, will be able to bolster its young squad and become a possible contender.

Brunnstrom, who led his club the Farjestads BK Karlstad in assists and ranked fifth in team scoring, has amassed a total of nine goals and 37 points in the 54 games he played in the Swedish Elite League.
