Newport Beach, CA (AHN) - Former NFL linebacker Eric Naposki plead not guilty for the cold case murder of Bill McLaughlin he allegedly committed 14 years ago.
Naposki played for the New England Patriots and Indianpolis Colts back in 1988 and 1989. During his professional career, he saw action in 5 games.
He has been accused by federal prosecutors for fatally killing the businessmen at his home, after being convinced to do so by McLaughlin's ex-girlfriend Nanette Packard McNeal.
McLaughlin was worth an estimated $55 million dollars, after his company patented and developed a form of centrifuge machine that separated blood from plasma.
The police have alleged that McNeal gave Naposki the key to the house, which allowed him to enter without forced entry, and shoot McLaughlin six times before leaving.
The murder took place on December 1994, and while they were suspected back then, no smoking gun - so to speak - was found and not enough evidence has arisen to convict him.
McNeal was, however, found guilty of grand theft, stealing $500,000 dollars from McLaughlin - and motive for the murder was established in the form of a $1 million dollars life insurance policy.
