Wimbledon, England (AHN) - Second-seeded Serena Williams, whipped in last year's finale by younger sister Venus, avenged that loss with a thundering 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 win in a rematch Saturday to win the women's singles crown at Wimbledon.
Serena, who snuck past Olympic gold medalist Elena Dementieva in the semifinals, completely overpowered Venus with her devastating serves to unseat the defending champion.
It was a completely different Venus, who thumped older sister, 7-5, 6-4, in last year's finale, that showed up in the fourth all-Williams Wimbledon final.
Venus, who dominated Centre Court since 2004, winning 35 straight sets at the world's most prestigious tennis event, struggled throughout the match.
She had trouble with her footwork and could not match her sister's power, as well.
The two-time champion Serena now has the advantage over Venus in career meetings, 11-10.
