Cable Expects To Remain With Raiders Through Season

AHN Sports Staff

Alameda, CA (AHN) - Despite allegations of assaults, football head coach Tom Cable expects to remain behind the bench of the Oakland Raiders.

Cable, 44, is reportedly being accused of physical abuse by a former wife and an ex-girlfriend.

The embattled coach said Wednesday that he met with the Raiders managing general partner Al Davis to discuss the allegations of abuse made in an ESPN story, InsideBayArea.com reported.

Cable added that he did not receive any assurance from Davis regarding his job, but indicated he expects to remain as the Raiders coach for the second half of the season.

The meeting between Cable and Davis came in the wake of the Raiders' statement Monday that it would pursue a "serious evaluation" of the matter.

Before officially being introduced as the Raiders head coach in February 2009, Cable was named interim coach following the dismissal of Lane Kiffin four games into the 2008 season.

He came to Oakland as offensive line coach after a doing the same job with the Atlanta Falcons, his first coaching stint in the NFL.

The struggling Raiders, in their bye week, have registered disappointing 2-6 start.
