New Orleans, LA (AHN) - New Orleans Hornets owner George Shinn announced in a news release Friday that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.
"My wife, Denise, and I remain strong in our faith and will maintain a positive attitude as I battle this with intense fervor and drive," Shinn said in the release.
Shinn has owned the team since 1988 when they were in Charlotte, North Carolina before he moved the expansion franchise to New Orleans in 2002 due to poor attendance.
He moved the team to Oklahoma City due to damage from Hurricane Katrina during the 2005-2006 seasons.
In the 2007-2008 campaign, the Hornets compiled 56 wins in the Western Conference and clinched their first division crown.
The team finished fourth (49-33) in the conference last season.
New Orleans (2-3) hosts the Toronto Raptors (2-2) tonight.
