Super Cooper: Back, Miami Rumble Over Virginia

Miami, FL (AHN) - Running back Graig Cooper had a career day on the ground with 152 yards as Miami manhandled Virginia 52-17 Saturday afternoon.

Miami trailed 10-3 early in this game after exchanging field goals, and than allowing a 34 yard touchdown run by Cavaliers senior running back Rashawn Jackson.

The Hurricanes scored the next three touchdowns, two by the arm of quarterback Jacory Harris and the other on a 60 yard punt return by Thearon Collier.

With the score 24-10 in the second quarter, Virgina received a big play from their special teams when Bill Schautz returned a blocked punt 20 yards for a touchdown making the score 24-17.

The third and fourth quarters were dominated by the Hurricanes.

Virginia was blanked the last two quarters as Miami went on to score 28 unanswered points, and rolled to a 52-17 victory.

Damien Berry had a pair of short yardage touchdown runs in the third quarter to put away the Cavaliers.

The Cavaliers were outgained 366 yards in the game, and played without starting quarterback Jameel Sewell who was out with a shoulder injury.

Graig Cooper finished the game with a career best 152 yards and touchdown.

Cooper also had a scamper of 70 yards which was his longest run of the day.

Quarterback Jacory Harris completed 10-of-33 for attempts for 232 yards and two touchdowns.

Cavaliers backup quarterback Marc Verica struggled against a very good Hurricane defense. Verica only passed for 75 yards and also threw an interception.

Miami has won the last three meetings against Virginia.

Miami improved to 7-2 on the year and will play another key conference game against North Carolina (5-3) next Saturday.

Virginia drops to 3-6 and has lost its last three games.

The Cavaliers play Boston College (6-3) next Saturday afternoon.
