Atlanta, GA (AHN) -- Storms that left at least 19 dead in the Midwest Saturday night have moved east, killing at least two in Georgia in the twilight hours of Sunday morning.
The Associated Press reported that the storms have damaged homes and businesses in multiple counties across Georgia, with Clayton County being hit especially hard. Downed trees are hampering rescue efforts and officials for Georgia Power say there are 85,000 homes without electricity.
One town, called Kite, with a population of 1,000, is reported to have been completely wiped out.
While weather experts have not yet stated whether or not tornados came from the storms, witnesses say they're sure tornados were responsible for the most devastating damage.
Mila Freeman, whose home was among those severely damaged said to the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, "It was not the wind. There's no way. It had to be a tornado."
According to The Weather Channel, the storm is expected to move into the Atlantic Sunday afternoon, and head north. The Northeast will see lots of rain, but meteorologists do not predict the severe weather the Midwest and Southeast endured.
