Amy Beeman - AHN

La Crosse, WI (AHN) -- Three people are dead after a University of Wisconsin medical helicopter crashed.

Authorities, who had been searching for the chopper after it went missing at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday found the site of the crash early Sunday morning. They confirmed the deaths of physician, Dr. Darren Bean, a registered nurse, Mark Coyne, and pilot Steve Lipperer. All were residents of Madison.

According to Wisconsin's Channel3000 news, officials are not sure what caused the crash, which was found in Onalaska, near La Crosse, but speculate it may have hit tree tops or a hill.

The families of the dead have been notified.
