Oceanside, CA (AHN) -- The search for a missing California couple has been suspended after the boat they were on at the time of their disappearance washed up on a Mexican beach.
Josh Hartman, 28, and fiance Ana Martin, 30 went on a routine fishing trip on May 8. According to reports, Hartman spoke to his brother at around 5 p.m. He said they'd caught a lot of fish and were heading back.
The couple never arrived. Hartman's family reported the couple missing and search teams were dispatched.
The Shirlaw Newsgroup reported that a multi-agency search effort including Oceanside Harbor Patrol and Mexican navy assets scoured the water for 45 hours. It also said The U.S. Coast Guard searched conducted an aerial search covering 6,419 square miles of ocean.
The boat, called "The Pelican" washed up near Rosarita Beach Friday and the search was called off Saturday afternoon. Authorities do not think the couple could have lived long in the 63-degree waters.
The San Diego Union Tribune reported that Coast Guard officials said they the boat shows no evidence of foul play.
Reports say a life vessel, life jackets and two rifles remained on board the boat.
While authorities have called off the search, the families of the couple are not ready to give up hope.
The mother of Hartman, Marsha, 53, said to the North County Times, "We're praying all the time they're going to come home, and we'll continue to until we find out something else."
Reports say Hartman is an avid boater and has been a commercial fisherman for two years.
The couple has wedding plans for August.
