Florida Mom, Two Children Found Dead, Mutilated

Melvin Baker - AHN

Tampa, FL (AHN) - Law enforcement officers say all the "players" have been accounted for in the gruesome murder and mutilation of a mother and her two children here on Monday.

No suspect has yet been named, but Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee said Tuesday afternoon that he does not believe the killer is still at large.

The bodies of Lisa Freiberg, 26, her daughter Heather Savannah, 2, and son Zachary, 7, were found by the woman's mother Tuesday morning in Freiberg's mobile home in Lutz, a small community north of Tampa.

At a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Gee told reporters that "the victims were mutilated; some were dismembered. At least one was decapitated."

The family German shepherd also was killed.

Gee said more than one weapon was used.

Freiberg's live-in boyfriend, Edward Covington, 35, was found in a bedroom closet, where he had hidden by pulling clothes on top of himself, the sheriff said.

Covington reportedly told investigators that he had taken an "unknown substance," according to TBO.com. He was taken to a local hospital, where he remained under guard Tuesday night.

No one has been arrested, and authorities said no motive for the killings had yet been established.
