Oshkosh, WI (AHN) - The Experimental Aviator Association's (EAA) AirVenture 2008 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin began Monday morning as planes, new and old, gathered from around the world.
EAA's 56th annual fly-in air show takes place July 28 to August 3 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. The show, which brings in over 2,500 planes each year to "the world's greatest aviation celebration," also brings in hundreds of thousands of fans as well as media from around the world.
A mix between proud home-built aviators and cutting edge flight technology, AirVenture at Oshkosh is where manufacturers debut their latest designs and hardware, while amateur pilots come to bring their planes, pitch a tent and catch up with old friends.
In fact, true to its name, EAA will celebrate the construction of the 30,000th home-built aircraft.
"30,000 certificated airplanes is a major milestone for the homebuilding movement," EAA director of member programs Charlie Becker explained. "We're planning to give this occasion its proper due at the home of the homebuilding movement, Oshkosh, and we encourage builders to come and help us celebrate."
AHN's Matthew Borghese will be covering AirVenture 2008 live from Oshkosh.
