Fort Hood, TX (AHN) - Early Friday morning investigators raided the home of a soldier suspected in the deadly shootings at Fort Hood, Texas on Thursday. Officers searched the apartment of the military psychiatrist for clues as to what may have caused him to gun down his fellow comrades.
Officers have identified Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, 39, as the alleged gunman who opened fire on people at the Family Readiness Center, a military processing center at Fort Hood. During the barrage of bullets that lasted nearly 10 minutes he allegedly killed 13 and wounded 30 others.
During a Friday press conference a military spokesman revealed one of those slain in Thursday's rampage was a civilian. The military is now notifying the families of those killed.
Military personnel shot Hasan multiple times and were able to take him into custody. He is now listed in stable condition and is breathing with the support of a ventilator. According to those who knew the psychiatrist who treated soldiers for post-traumatic stress he was a good therapist.
However, it is now being reported that his family said he wanted out of the military due to taunting he faced because of his Muslim faith.
Fort Hood is the largest military base in the world.
