Air France Airbus Bound For Paris Doubles Back To NY To Fix Mechanical Issues

Hansen Sinclair - AHN Reporter

New York, NY (AHN) - An Airbus for Air France had to double back to New York 90 minutes into its flight to France, officials for the airline said Monday.

The A380 was en route to Paris when it had to turn around due to a "minor incident." Airline officials did not specify the nature of the issue. Airbus also declined to comment, saying it was an airline maintenance problem, not a manufacturer issue.

The flight turned around in "strict accordance with procedures and as a precautionary measure …," Air France officials said. The plane safely touched down at New York's John F. Kennedy International airport Friday approximately 10:15 p.m. The airplane was serviced and completed its journey.

Air France had recently started flying the new A380 airplanes across the Atlantic. The inaugural flight was Nov. 21 from Paris' Charles de Gaulle airport to JFK.

It is the fourth airline to operate the superjumbo plane.
