Einstein Regarded Religion As 'Childish Superstition' In 1954 Letter

Windsor Genova - AHN News Writer

London, UK (AHN) - Renowned physicist Albert Einstein described religion as "childish superstition" in a letter he wrote that will be auctioned here on Thursday.

According to the UK Guardian, in his letter to the philosopher Eric Gutkind dated Jan. 3, 1954, Einstein wrote in German: "For me the Jewish religion like all others is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions."

The statement expressed the Jewish scientist's view that Jews are not God's favored people.

Einstein also showed his side as a non-believer by stating in the same letter that God is "the expression and product of human weaknesses" and that the Bible is "a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish."
