Jaipur, India (AHN) - Two men were arrested Wednesday after a series of eight bombings in the country's western tourist city, Jaipur.
"We have arrested two people and have detained several more for questioning," Chief Minister of Rajasthan state Vasundhara Raje told a press conference.
Mrs. Raje, who belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party, said they have information that 63 people have died and many are injured critically. The bombs used in the attack were a mix of plastic RDX explosive, ammonium nitrate and ball-bearings that acted like tiny missiles once the devices were detonated, she added.
The bombs were believed to have been planted on bicycles, police said, and they released a sketch of a suspect on later Wednesday they wanted to question.
"This is a sketch of one of the suspects who bought a bicycle from one of the cycle shops. The owner remembers this person," Police Inspector General Pankaj Kumar Singh told Agence France Press. "All the cycles were brand new. Anyone coming to Jaipur to do such a dastardly act would not get cycles from another city. They were bought here.'
Several people, including owners of cycle shops, were being questioned.
Seven separate blasts were recorded over a 12-minute period in the early evening Tuesday, with many occurring close to some of Jaipur's most famous or historic monuments.
Known as the 'pink city' because of the color of the walls, forts, palaces and other buildings that dominate the old city, Jaipur is the capital of Rajasthan state and a popular tourist destination in India.
