Heavy rains which began deluging the region on Sunday evening gave rise to flash floods and a path of destruction in its wake.
State officials on Thursday report at least a dozen deaths are being blamed on the weather system in Nepal. The Himalayan nation's army, police and civil volunteers were called on aid in relief efforts and rescue stranded people. However, they had their efforts hampered due swollen rivers and poor road conditions in remote areas.
279 miles west of the Nepalese capital, in the Kailali district some estimates place more than 6,000 people displaced from their homes by the rising water. Two of the most heavily hit areas were Dadeldhura and Accham districts, where officials say 35 people perished in landslides. Many children perished in Dadeldhura when two houses were swept away in raging waters.

At least a dozen districts were affected by the rains which also damaged highways and brought down power and telephone lines. Farmlands being prepped for harvest are now under water and air traffic has been halted.
