U.S. Air Strike Targets Militants In Pakistan

Matthew Borghese - AHN Contributor

Islamabad, Pakistan (AHN) - The United States has helped its ally Pakistan fight militants within its own border, launching an air strike from a combat drone in the volatile tribal area that borders Afghanistan.

Pakistan has deployed an estimated 28,000 troops to deal with the Taliban who share control of vast areas along the border with local tribesmen. According to varying reports, between 10 and 14 people were killed in the strike from an unmanned drone.

While journalists aren't allowed near the fighting, the Pakistani army announced it has taken control of Kotkai, a village in South Waziristan that is home to Taliban leader Hakimullah Mehsud.
