Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - The Israeli navy has seized a ship transporting weapons that was headed to Syria. Officials announced the ship was 100 miles west off the coast when it was detained on Tuesday and escorted to an Israeli port to be searched.
According to reports vessel carried enough weapons and ammunition to supply Hezbollah for a month or more in fighting against Israel.
An Israel Defense Forces statement says the ship was carrying arms from Iran that were on route to Syria to be delivered to Hezbollah fighters in Lebanon. Investigators say the weapons were hidden in numerous containers and when the collected weight was estimated it registered in the several hundreds of tons. During the vessel's search commandos reportedly found missiles of various ranges, including long range.
