Siddique Islam - AHN Correspondent

Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN) - Bangladesh is eager to have an international climate adaptation center in the country, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni said in Dhaka on Wednesday.

She said this when a nine-member delegation of the International Development Committee (IDC) of the British Parliament, headed by Malcolm Bruce MP, met her at her ministry in the capital, Dhaka.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues like democracy, development and human rights, trade and economic partnership and climate change, according to a foreign ministry press statement.

The foreign minister thanked the British government, Parliamentarians and the people of the UK for their steadfast support for Bangladesh's advancement towards return to democracy, including its roadmap to elections, support for voter ID card project, and election observation.

She also mentioned that the government of Bangladesh has recently adopted "Bangladesh Climate Change Strategic and Action Plan 2009" and The National Adoption Program of Action (NAPA) and "Climate Change Trust Fund".

Under the adaptation plan, strategies have been formulated for managing disaster, agricultural diversity, ensuring food security, dredging major rivers, forming green belts and developing coastal forests.
