Ottawa, Ontario (AHN) - Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said on Monday he will visit South Korea on Dec. 6 to 7. The Seoul visit is in line with Canada's co-hosting of the G20 Summit on June 2010 with the Republic of Korea.
Harper said in a statement, "Canada's relationship with the Republic of Korea is grounded in long standing historical ties and many years of strong political and economic cooperation. The Republic of Korea is an important economic partner and like-minded player in the global and regional promotion of freedom and democracy."
Seoul is Ottawa's seventh largest trading partner. In 2008 its two-way merchandise trade was valued at $9.8 billion.
While Canada will host the G8 summit is Muskoka in June 2010, it will hold a simultaneous G20 summit alongside with major developing economies taking part such as China, India and Brazil.
