Siddique Islam - AHN Correspondent

Dhaka, Bangladesh (AHN) - The government would take necessary measures to increase manpower in Bangladesh embassies and missions across the world to provide better services to the expatriate Bangladeshis, Foreign Minister Dipu Moni said.

"The government will think about opening a consulate office in Milan city of Italy," said the foreign minister giving directives to the Bangladesh embassy officials across the world to give their best efforts for ensuring fast and quality services to the expatriates.

Dipu Moni was talking to the expatriate Bangladeshis in an exchange of opinions in Rome on Tuesday, according to a message received in the capital, Dhaka on Wednesday.

As the expatriates informed her about difficulties in sending their hard-earned money to their family members, the foreign minister assured them of the government's initiative to set up Expatriate Welfare Bank in the country for their financial betterment.

She also said the government would look into the matter whether any branch of a state-owned bank could be set up in Rome or in any other Italian city.

"Despite resource constraints, the present government is working round the clock for betterment of the people, including its expatriate human resources," the minister said assuring the expatriates of providing best efforts from the government for their maximum welfare.

The expatriates also requested the Foreign Minister to take immediate measures by the government to increase flights of the state-run Biman Bangladesh Airlines between Dhaka and Rome and, if possible, other cities of Italy.
