Hotel Tax Committee Voices Concern about Unpaid Taxes

CLEARFIELD - The Hotel Tax Committee has continued to voice concern about area hotels, bed and breakfasts and other privately owned facilities, which have not paid their quarterly taxes, Holly Komonczi, marketing director, said at Wednesday’s Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority meeting.

“It comes up at every meeting, and they’ve asked about our plans,” she said.

According to Komonczi, the tax rate is set at approximately three percent above all others.

She said it’s used to market tourism and has proven beneficial. “Everyone benefits but not everyone is pulling their weight. And, there is concern among the people who are.”

As a result, the committee wants to enforce state penalties.

Komonczi didn’t have further details about the state penalties at the meeting.

“We want the commissioners to address this and push for regular tax payments,” she said.

Board Member, Mark McCracken, who also serves on the board of commissioners, advised Komonczi to contact County Solicitor Kim Kesner and provide him with the necessary paperwork.
