CLEARFIELD - The Clearfield County Commissioners conditionally approved a request from Union Township for Helping Americans Vote Act funds on Tuesday.

Clearfield County utilizes the Union Township Civilian Defense Fire Company as a polling place for elections. The fire company made improvements to their building to make it more handicapped accessible. Those improvements would fall under reimbursable funds from HAVA through the county.

The total project was in excess of $30,000. The commissioners conditionally agreed to grant Union Township $1,500 to help offset that cost. The county will then have to submit paperwork to HAVA for reimbursement of those funds.

Clearfield County Commissioner Mark McCracken noted that the commissioners should tour the polling place and view the upgrades before giving final approval to the request.
