Police Investigating Bomb Threat at P-O Junior High

PHILIPSBURG – The Philipsburg State Police are currently investigating a bomb threat found between 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Philipsburg-Osceola Junior High School.

According to the police report, the threat about the school being “blown up” was written on the wall in the second floor boy’s bathroom. As a result, school officials evacuated the building, and students were released to parents at the Moshannon Valley YMCA.

Florida Man Accused of Stalking State Trooper has Hearing

BELLEFONTE – The man accused of stalking and retaliating against a state trooper had a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Carmine Prestia.

Gregory Walker of Kissimee, Fla. was jailed on Feb. 19 following an investigation.

Pennsylvania State Trooper Shawn Inlow was the first to testify. He testified that he was assigned to investigate Gregory Walker’s son, Benjamin Walker, following an incident on a school bus trip to Boston, Mass. Inlow said the incident involved hazing and such.

Delisle Sentenced to State Prison

CLEARFIELD - The man behind the wheel in a truck rampage incident last summer at Gambler's Raceway Park was sentenced to state prison on Tuesday.

Delisle used his truck to ram a fire department vehicle while there were passengers inside after the firefighters asked to be paid.

After a jury trial in January Richard Delisle of Clearfield was found guilty of Delisle was found guilty of five counts of simple assault, seven counts of recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, injure or tamper with fire apparatus, and disorderly conduct. He was found not guilty of criminal attempt to commit criminal homicide and multiple counts of aggravated assault.

Commissioners Conditionally Approve HAVA Funds for Union Township

CLEARFIELD - The Clearfield County Commissioners conditionally approved a request from Union Township for Helping Americans Vote Act funds on Tuesday.

Clearfield County utilizes the Union Township Civilian Defense Fire Company as a polling place for elections. The fire company made improvements to their building to make it more handicapped accessible. Those improvements would fall under reimbursable funds from HAVA through the county.

Fatal Accident Reported in Morris Township

MORRIS TOWNSHIP - State police in Clearfield reported fatal accident that occurred Sunday morning near 3 a.m.

James Flick of Morrisdale was traveling north on state Route 53 near Emigh Run Road. He attempted to negotiate a left curve in the roadway when his vehicle traveled off the eastern side of the roadway and overturned onto its left side before it struck a utility pole with its roof.

Flick was pronounced dead at the scene by Clearfield County Deputy Coroner Michael Polachek.

CASD Approves Suspension of Elementary Skeleton Schedule

CLEARFIELD – Parents and teachers applauded the Clearfield Area School District Board of Directors for approving the suspension of the newly implemented elementary skeleton schedule at Monday night’s regular meeting.

The board voted unanimously for the suspension. Board member Dr. Tina Serafini abstained from the vote, while she had just learned of the concerns surrounding the schedule at the meeting.

Prior to the board’s discussion, Clearfield Elementary Principal Anne Herzing and Centre, Bradford and Girard-Goshen Elementary Principal Dr. Mark Dymond presented the schedule to the board.

State Police Report School Bus Accident in Elk County

FOX TOWNSHIP - State police in Ridgway reported that a bus carrying 19 students was struck from behind Thursday morning.

According to police the bus was picking a student up along state Route 255 at 7:15 a.m. when a Weedville man failed to stop for the bus and struck it from behind.

DASD Approves Hiring Through Online Clearinghouse

DUBOIS - For the rest of this school year and the next employment applications will now be accepted by the DuBois School District through the Internet through Pennsylvania Educators' Clearinghouse, PA-educator.net.

The clearinghouse program works by allowing aspiring applicants to fill out an application online. Benefits of this system are claimed to be saving time, money and ease of use. The length of time to fill out a standard application is about an hour. The clearinghouse allows applicants to search the database of over 190 school districts and intermediate units and those same organizations to search all available applications on such parameters as certification, grade point average, degree level and others.
