Clarion University Sets New Room and Board Fees

CLARION-Clarion University Trustees recently approved new room and board fees, effective with the 2008 Summer I Session.

“I am recommending a residence hall room increase of 3.75 percent for 2008-09,” said Harry Tripp, vice president for student and university affairs, said at the March 27 meeting. “Budget assumptions include increased personnel cost of four percent, custodial contract increase of eight percent, and increase in utilities cost of five percent.

“This year, the contractor reimbursement rate of meal plans will increase by 3.97 percent. For 2008-09, I am recommending a meal plan increase of six percent to meet increases in utilities operating cost assumptions, and half of the increase needed for bond payments to construct the new dining hall.”

The combined room and board increase will be approximately 4.3 percent, resulting in a combined room and board rate of $3,275 when opting for the 19-meal plan with flex. When choosing the 19-meal plan without flex the combined cost would be $3,034.

With these increases, Clarion will be seventh in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education in combined room and board rate when compared to a double room with a 19-meal plan with flex. Clarion is eleventh when choosing the 19-meal plan without flex.

The room rates approved are: double room per semester, $2,070; double room summer session, $690; double room summer weekly, $138; single room per semester, $2,653; single room summer session, $884; and single room summer weekly, $177.

The board rates approved are: 19-meal standard, $964 per semester; 19-meal flex, $1,204 per semester; 14-meal flex, $1,170 per semester; 10-meal flex, $952 per semester; five-meal flex, $683 per semester; block 175 flex, $1,125 per semester; block 75 flex, $715 per semester; summer session, $323; and summer weekly, $65.
