CCCTC Proposes Potential 2008-09 Budget Adjustments

CLEARFIELD - At the request of the home schools’ superintendents, the 2008-09 budget was adjusted in order to better represent the student enrollment, Lois Richards, executive director of the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center, said at Monday night’s Joint Operating Committee meeting.

She said the enrollments were different from the budget proposed last month. “The percentages change based on the number of students.”

Richards also noted a five-year student enrollment average will no longer work due to the decline in numbers.
“It’s better to fix it now and use the real numbers,” she said.

According to this month’s proposed budget, there will be a 3.43 percent increase over this year’s current budget amount.

Richards said it’s an estimated 1.28 percent increase without the budgetary reserve.

The budgetary reserve will cover incidentals and has allowed for more than $55,000 for emergency pay, benefits and repairs.

“It will more than likely not be spent,” she said.

Richards also said the budget proposed adjustments in case programs were only offered half-time.

She said the budget, with precision machinist at half-time, would call for a 2.881 percent increase but only a 0.73 percent increase without the reserve.

“It lowers the percentages if the programs go to half-time,” Kathie Malinich, business manager, said.

With both precision machinist and drafting at half-time, the budget has only a 2.501 percent increase, making it a 0.84 increase without the reserve.

But if all three, precision machinist, drafting and electronics, are at half-time, the increase is only 1.667 percent and -0.49 percent without the reserve.

Malinich emphasized the budget adjustments were only proposals. “There is going to be a lot of changes.”
