CLEARFIELD – Pending the execution of a contract, Sam Maney, of Curwensville, will step in as the next business manager for the Clearfield Area School District after the board voted unanimously to hire him at its regular meeting Monday night.

Board Member, Larry Putt said Maney is currently a Certified Public Accountant at Walter Hopkins & Company LLP, Clearfield.

Although Putt could not recall the specific degree details, he did say Maney had “a lot of education.”

He also said Maney’s experience was similar to that of current Business Manager, Jason Barnett.

“Both of them were CPAs and have a broader view,” Putt said.

“I think he (Maney) has been involved with other school board audits in the area. His experience is exceptional.”

He said Maney’s salary would start at $80,000 and move upward to $85,000 for the second year. Maney would then see a 3.5 percent increase during the third year, with a 3.2 percent increase in the fourth and final year of the contract.

Putt said Barnett’s salary would have been $85,000 if he had stayed.

Maney has an approximate start date set for July 7, which is the same day Barnett’s resignation goes into effect.

Board Member, Tim Morgan thanked Barnett for his three years of service.

“Since your arrival, you have done a great job,” Morgan said. “I appreciate you and what you’ve done.

“I’m sorry to see you go. But it’s your determination to move on to greener pastures. I wish you the best.”

Barnett resigned from his position at a meeting in May to accept a position in the Brookville Area School District for “family reasons.”

Following that meeting, he said his experience had been incredible.

“I’ve been able to learn the business and work with great people,” Barnett said

He also added he was grateful for the opportunity to serve the district.
