Curwensville Borough Council to Negotiate with Teamsters Over Insurance Costs (GantDaily Graphic) |

CURWENSVILLE – At a special meeting Tuesday night Curwensville Borough Council agreed to have one of their members meet with union representatives to discuss the current healthcare issue.
It was announced at a meeting last month that the insurance rate for members of the streets and police department had risen, in some instances, by 69 percent.
Council member Dave McNaul volunteered to contact the Teamsters concerning the insurance issue.
The new monthly insurance rate costs the borough $9,042.96, as compared the past monthly bill of $5,554.67
McNaul said that he will propose that the borough pay for half of the recent increase while the employees pay for their individual half. It was also indicated that if there is another increase next year, that the employees would potentially have to pay for the full increase.
“If they want their jobs, they’re going to have to give,” said Council President Mark Curulla.
He also added that if the proposition is not accepted the board will have to make some hard decisions.
The current contract with the Teamsters runs through 2010.
