DASD Kindergarten Start Date to Take Effective Beginning 09-10 School Year

(GantDaily Graphic)

DUBOIS - A recent change to the kindergarten start date in the DuBois Area School District will not take effect until the 2009-10 school year.

The DuBois Area School Board, upon the recommendation of a special committee, recently voted to change the start date for when students can begin kindergarten in a given year from Sept. 1 to July 1. For the 2008-09 school year, the Sept. 1 start date still applies.

The new policy states that a child is eligible for admission to kindergarten if he/she has attained the age of 5 on or before the first day of July.
The policy also allows for early admission as well. The policy states the board may, upon the written request of the parent or guardian, admit a child to kindergarten who is less than the age of 5 by July 1 if the child passes an intellectual assessment and developmental screening. The request will be considered by the school board when recommended by the school psychologist, guidance counselor and approved by the superintendent.

For more information, parents or guardians can contact 371-2700.
