CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners took action on Tuesday that could potentially help a municipal sewer project in Burnside Borough.
Lisa Kovalick, community development specialist, stated that the borough is seeking a grant in the amount of $250,000 to help offset costs of implementing a sewer system that was mandated by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
Kovalick said the Burnside project is costs around $2.9 million.
She stated that the application would be sent to state Sen. Don White’s office.
County Commissioner Mark McCracken noted that while most of Clearfield County is hilly, Burnside is unique.
“It’s (Burnside Borough) relatively flat,” said McCracken.
Kovalick also noted that $100,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding has been allocated to help residents with lateral costs.
Kim Kesner, county solicitor and solicitor for some of Clearfield County’s municipalities and municipal authorities said that he hopes Kovalick can help municipal leaders in debunking myths about what money is or is not available to help with these kinds of projects.
Following discussion the commissioners approved applying for the Safer Water Appropriation Grant.
