Curwensville Borough Council Approves New Insurance Policy for Workers

(GantDaily Graphic)

CURWENSVILLE – Curwensville Borough Council took action to change their workers’ insurance coverage and save the borough money on Monday night.

Council has been looking at different options soften the impact of a 69 percent increase to the borough’s insurance coverage.

The borough received a quote from Burns & Burns Associates that would save the borough $14,826.24 per year. Unlike the Teamster’s coverage, this plan requires the borough crew and police officers to pay a copayment.

Council President Mark Curulla said it is still a 62 percent increase over last year’s rate.

“It’s gonna help us,” said Curulla.

Council approved the new plan with a motion by Sam Ettaro and as second from Julie Girardi.

Council took other potential cost-saving measures by agreeing to pay off a tax anticipation loan in the amount of $70,000 by Sept. 1.
