January 12th, 2009 Informational Forum Concerning Gas Well Drilling and Watersheds to be Held Wednesday
CLEARFIELD - An educational forum sponsored by the Moshannon Creek Watershed Coalition, the Wood Duck chapter of Trout Unlimited, the Clearfield County Conservation District and the Centre County Conservation District will be held on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Clearfield Co. Multi-Service Building, 650 Leonard Street, Clearfield
The forum is being held regarding Marcellus Shale gas well drilling and implications for our watersheds. The forum will be geared toward watershed groups, sportsmen's organizations, and others interested in learning more about what this industry will mean for our local environment, in particular the streams.
The following speakers and topics have been confirmed and will be followed by a discussion/question and answer session:
Rebecca Dunlap, Project Manager West Branch Susquehanna Restoration Initiative, Trout Unlimited - "Historical extractions of our natural resources/ learning from the past"
Fred Berry, Conservation Technician Clearfield County Conservation District "Gas Well Drilling Environmental Impacts"
Tim Keister, Chief Chemist/President Prochemtech "Treatment/Recycle of Frac Water and Use of AMD* for Frac Water" *Abandoned Mine Drainage
This is a forum geared toward educating folks in the local environmental community about the implications of natural gas development in our region in order to foster proactive decision making and responsible development of our natural resources. It is not intended to address any land right, lease or other legal issues as these types of topics will not be discussed at the meeting.
