Commissioners Approve Grant App. for Karthaus/Burnside Sewer Project, get Update on River Hill

CLEARFIELD – Two neighboring municipalities may be getting some help for a required sewer treatment faciliy.

On Tuesday the Clearfield County Commissioners approved submitting a Community Development Block Grant application, statement of assurance and disclosure report on behalf of Karthaus Township.

Karthaus Township and neighboring municipality Burnside Township in Centre County are working on a joint sewer project that will cost around $9.2 million, and will affect over 200 users.

The amount of the grant applied for is in the amount of $500,000. Other funding sources are also being looked at to help defray the cost of the project.

Rick Sollman, from Congressman Glenn Thompson’s office, was also on had at Tuesday’s meeting and gave the commissioners an update on the River Hill Powerplant project.

The River Hill project has been on hold due to funding issues. Sollman said the project is currently under consideration for a loan.

Commissioner Mark McCracken noted that both Thompson and Sen. Bob Casey are both helping with the project.

“We have the right people in Washington working on this,” said McCracken.
