Higgins Sentenced to State Prison on Drug Charges

CLEARFIELD - Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. announced that a DuBois man pleaded guilty to drug charges on Wednesday.
Darryl Higgins was sentenced for the delivery of heroin and the delivery of heroin laced and fentonyl to a minimum of one year to a maximum of five years in state prison, according to Shaw. Higgins was also sentenced to three years of probation and is to submit to DNA testing.

Higgins was wanted by the state police and Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office for the sale of heroin spiked with fentonyl. Higgins was taken into custody by police on July 29.

According to court records state police had a confidential informant make two separate controlled buys from Higgins. The first was on April 17. The informant went to Higgins residence. When he returned to the trooper’s vehicle he had purchased four bags of heroin labeled “Top Secret.”

The second buy was made on April 30 at Higgins residence. An informant had told officers that Higgins had three bags of heroin (suspected fentonyl). The informant returned with three bags of heroin marked “New Era.” That batch was sent to the Erie Regional Crime Lab and tested positive for fentonyl.
