Yup, fall is officially here. Being able to see your breath in the morning is a sure sign of that.
This last week saw a man accused of escaping jail in court, a gunman's identity was released and Clearfield Borough took another step in their sanitary sewer upgrades.
A drug dealer entered a guilty plea, DuBois City and their workers are working together, and charges were filed against a woman for in relation to the death's of two Mahaffey residents.

Falls Creek Gunman Identified, Arraigned
FALLS CREEK - A man taken into custody after a standoff with police between Oct. 4 and 5 has been identified as 47-year-old Daniel Ray Yount of Falls Creek.
According to a previous GantDaily article, police reported that a trooper arrived at an Old Grade Road, Washington Township, Jefferson County, address at about 9:30 p.m. in response to an incident there. Yount reportedly discharged a shotgun and then entered a home and barricaded himself inside.

Bids in for Phase III of Clearfield Sewer Project
CLEARFIELD - The numbers are in for the third phase of Clearfield Borough's sanitary sewer upgrade, and the low bid is about $1.5 million less than budgeted.
Continental Construction Inc. of Ridgway submitted the apparent low bid, opened during Thursday night's work session of the council. Their bid was for $3,476,282.
Continental has completed work on earlier portions of the borough's upgrade.

DASD Hires Substitute Superintendent
DUBOIS - The DuBois Area School Board of Directors ended their search for a replacement for outgoing Superintendent Sharon Kirk on Wednesday night by hiring Larry Robb of Kittanning as substitute superintendent.
Robb will begin his duties as substitute superintendent on Feb. 14, 2008. He will act in that position until Sept. 10, 2008. On Sept. 11, Robb will become the district's superintendent. His contract will expire on June 30, 2013. Robb's salary will be $115,000 per year.

Escaped Inmate Waives Charges, Alleged Accomplices Continue
CLEARFIELD - The 19-year-old Cherry Tree man accused of escaping from the Clearfield County Jail two weeks ago waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday.
Ronald J. Beltowski is accused of obtaining help from two other inmates at CCJ Sept. 23. The two men played a role in Beltowski's escape that allowed him to leave the jail and make his way to his mother's home in Cherry Tree.

Progress Being Made Between City of DuBois, Workers
DUBOIS - DuBois City Council member John Micks announced at Monday night's meeting of DuBois City Council that progress in labor relations has been made between the city and its workers.
The workers had been without a contract since 2005.

Higgins Sentenced to State Prison on Drug Charges
CLEARFIELD - Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. announced that a DuBois man pleaded guilty to drug charges on Wednesday.
Darryl Higgins was sentenced for the delivery of heroin and the delivery of heroin laced and fentonyl to a minimum of one year to a maximum of five years in state prison, according to Shaw. Higgins was also sentenced to three years of probation and is to submit to DNA testing.
Higgins was wanted by the state police and Clearfield County District Attorney’s Office for the sale of heroin spiked with fentonyl. Higgins was taken into custody by police on July 29. Click here for that story.
Charges Filed in Connection with Mahaffey Deaths
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. announced that charges have been filed against a Patton woman in connection with a motor vehicle crash causing the deaths of two people along state Route 36 in Mahaffey Borough.
Shaw identified the defendant as Bobbi Jo Morgan, 22, of Patton.

CCRTA Makes Signage Grant Focus in 2008
CLEARFIELD - On Wednesday the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority took to heart recommendations from Roger Brooks, a branding expert with Destination Development Inc.
Brooks spoke of the need for blade signage in front of businesses to better help travelers understand what the businesses are. These signs are right angles to streets and sidewalks. Brooks said that the signage should not only have the business's name, but also what service it provides.

DuBois City Council Approves Brewery Redevelopment Items
DUBOIS – DuBois City Council made some decisions regarding the Brewery Redevelopment Project on Monday night.
Following a public hearing earlier in the evening, council approved a proposal for professional services with Lee-Simpson Associates.
