Accidental Fire Reported in Chester Hill Borough

PHILIPSBURG - An accidental fire in a Chester Hill Borough garage was most likely caused by a void in the flue, according to a state police fire marshal.

Clearfield-based state police investigated the fire that occurred at the residence of Charles and Barbara Mencer on Sunday evening. The fire was in their detached garage. The investigation revealed that the fire orginated in a furnace within the garage. A void in the flue that contacted the interior wall above the furnace is believed to have caused the fire, according to police.

The fire was ruled accidental and damage is estimated at around $20,000.
