County Commissioners Name Businesses Delinquent in Filing Hotel Tax Paperwork

CLEARFIELD - The Clearfield County Commissioners announced county establishments that have not filed reports as part of the county's hotel tax program.

According to Rex Read, commissioner chairman, three hotels are currently outstanding in filing their hotel tax reports for the third quarter this year. Read also said that the establishments have been made aware of their status through the mailing of notices.

Hotel patrons in Clearfield County pay a percentage of their room rate in taxes that go to the county to be used in tourism promotion.

Read said that Electric Avenue has not filed in the first, second, or third quarters this year. The Osceola Mills Hotel did not file its third quarter report, nor did the Economy Inn (formerly the Voyager Motel).

Mark McCracken, commissioner, noted that even if a facility does not lodge anyone in a particular quarter, it must still file a report. He added that members of the Clearfield County Recreation and Tourism Authority hotel tax committee are looking at ways of improving collection and notification of hotel tax money.

"The vast majority are very diligent in collecting and recording in a timely fashion," said Read.

County Solicitor Kim Kesner asked if action would be taken if the delinquent entities do not file. Read said that if they do not act, the commissioners will ask Kesner to step in.
